We arrived in Da Nang at 3:00 am without a hotel booked and we had no idea what to do. We decided to walk to a hotel we'd looked up previously, hoping they would be open and have a free room at this ridiculous time of night. It was a lot further than we first thought. We had to walk for about an hour. We saw quite a few rats running around and there were a few people still awake, drinking and watching sport. I really didn't enjoy walking around at night in a strange town so I was very eager to get to a hotel. Once we got to the hotel and woke up the staff, they told us they were full. Damn. So we continued walking in the hopes we'd find a room elsewhere. Fortunately, the nearby Golden Sea Hotel had a free room for US$29. This was the dearest place we had stayed in thus far. We went up to our room and it was amazing. The room was enormous and clean. At this point it was 5:00 am. It was a pity that all we wanted to do was sleep and that we had to check-out at 12:00 pm.
We woke up at 8:30 am for a free breakfast which was great. There was a wide of variety of food and lovely staff. Afterwards we packed our things and headed over to the beach. We decided to leave Da Nang that day because we had heard that Da Nang is very touristy and that Hoi An is much better. We got to the beach and had no idea what everyone was talking about - we didn't see one tourist for about an hours walk and it was nice and quiet on the beach. We had a seafood lunch by the beach which was very expensive and then hailed a taxi for Hoi An.
